The Yawanawá tribe area is situated by the banks of Gregoria River, between Bolivia and Peru. Tribe’s main activities are hunting and fishing. Shamanic knowledge of the tribe is carefully maintained and transferred for one generation to another by their shamans and shaman initiates. The shamanic snuff has a central place in their culture since the tribe members receive rapé after one of their healers dies. They believe it can cure diseases of mind and body. This rapé tradition is very old. In ancient times only the medicine man was allowed to take rapé and connect with the jungle spirit.
Rapé has an ancestral legacy of healing. According to their stories it exists since immemorial times in their cosmology.
